Consisting of private one-to-one support, individual therapy is a helpful way to explore personal issues confidentially with a trained professional. The therapist is an unbiased and objective observer who listens, reflects, encourages, and challenges the client in order to bring about relief and change. The therapist may introduce skills and techniques to help build resilience and tolerance or she may recommend certain homework exercises. Individual therapy is good option for individuals who feel stuck, lost, or depressed/anxious and feel they can't speak to their friends or family about their concerns. It is a relationship of trust and vulnerability.
All relationships change over time and romantic relationships are no exception. Attending therapy with your partner(s) is an opportunity to explore the relationship in a safe and curious space. Issues range from old patterns of interaction to new problems that impact communication and intimacy. Marriage /
Couple therapy examines the relationship from all perspectives and aims to uncover some of the individual processes that underlie the loss of connection. The therapist will use a variety of systemic approaches based on the fit of the couple and will encourage new patterns of interaction. The therapist may encourage the couple to practice these new patterns of interaction both within and in between sessions.
The family system is the first place where we learn about relationships. It is the first lens through which we view the world around us. Families are complex and dynamic constellations of culture, generational experiences, and external influences. The therapy process aims to explore these factors in a safe and curious environment in order to help all members better understand both healthy and unhealthy patterns of interaction with each other. The therapist may see family members in various groupings including one-on-one, small groups with 1 - 2 individuals, or as a whole depending on the goals the family wishes to work on.
